Renovation and Expansion of Mid-Century Landmark
This transformative redevelopment project renewed the Waterloo Lutheran Seminary, the founding institution of Wilfrid Laurier University.
The carefully curated renovations maintained as much of the original exterior as possible while extensively re-mediating the interior. New features include open gathering spaces, a brightened chapel, modernized technology enabled classrooms, new faculty and administration offices, and improved ablution facilities for Muslim students and guests.
Energy saving features include new windows, insulation, and an energy efficient heating and cooling system. Linkages to the courtyard were improved with new sliding glass doors and a generous terrace.
The most significant change was the removal of the mechanical penthouse at grade in favour of a new formal canopied entrance.
